How do i select motor power for my machine?

I use a center lathe.
for doing turning and facing operation on forged rings .
how do i select the required power rating of the motors to couple to X and Z axis?

and how to cross verify the calculation with digital instruments. like using a load cell and finding the force .

Your tool supplier should be able to supply cutting force and HP (Horse Power) needed for any operation.

Also on the web are hundreds of speed/feed calculators that can supply HP needed to turn a material.

For a convetional manual lathe 1.5m between centers with prismatic Z ways and dovetail X ways 1500kg will be enough 1.8kw ac servo for Z axis and 600w for X axis both 3000rpm reduction 2:1 / 10mm pitch ballscrews (diammeter 32mm for Z / 16mm for X) ?
Or bigger servos needed?
